1/28/2024 0 Comments Deeper connect mini*If* you use it for something naughty, then I guess you get your money's worth. The major difference seems to be that a large part of the time this Deeper Connect thing will probably do nothing but use your internet service to source traffic that other people don't want to be showing up as coming from their IP address. Their little boxes absolutely can and probably do collect user information and usage data, maybe even traffic samples to sell to whoever they feel like. Also, they claim they can't datamine or collect user info and sell it because their system is decentralized except. There is no explanation of which traffic is automatically routed to other users' internet service, nor any explanation of why you would want to do that.īasically they compare themselves to VPN by showing the downsides of VPN (single points of data collection, performance issues) and then claiming they don't suffer those same issues even though they later explain that your performance while using their stuff is limited to the upstream performance of the user selected to source your traffic which means it could be often limited to 10 megabit on services with low upstream performance (cable internet mostly). Their product looks like they slapped a nice metal cover over the equivalent of a Raspberry Pi or similar and are running some DMVPN or some kind of customized socks proxy software to tunnel selective traffic through other users internet services. The website for it is just buzzword-tastic, I mean this thing uses *blockchain* to increase your security and privacy! But it very well could be legit, and most forum discussions go back and forth.Ĭlick to expand. All of their materials are pretty unprofessional at best, full of spelling mistakes, jargon without explanation, misused terminology etc., it all smacks of a get rich quick scheme. As he has been using this for some time, I don't think it is the culprit, but I do wonder if he should be using it or not. It sounds a bit like a TOR router, but other folks with such router use yours as a potential proxy / route in their traffic. All three notices happened the same day.īut, he is also using this "Deeper Connect VPN" gadget a "Distributed Private Network" which just by name alone makes my suspicion sense tingle.ĭid a bit of digging but can't find a decided answer on how legit it is. Got to looking around first, I think the actual infringement thing was someone riding his network after he factory reset the router and had it unsecured for a day or so. He then also got a notice from ISP about copyright infringement, which he doesn't do anything that would qualify. Has anyone used this or are there better versions of this little box? I have an orbi system which does not support outgoing vpn.My step dad is / was having some network issues and did all sorts of crazy things trying to fix it. It does seem to have a nice webpage for changing vpn nodes which would make things easier for me. I am not worried about the price but what I am concerned is how well it really works. I did a little research and it appears it is a tor server that uses other deep connects boxes for vpn nodes. ( I am a little Leary of products through indegogo as I got the Mac invisible dock and it is less than stellar). I primarily plan on using it for geolocked content and just to hide some of my activities if I am doing something I don’t feel comfortable with my isp seeing.Īnyway, my question is while reading my google news feed an article popped up for the Deep Connect Mini. I am sure once I got used to it, I would find it easy but as it stands now I just have it connecting to a Washington DC node. However, it seems to be a real pain in order to change nodes. Took me a little while but I followed an article on doing this and it is working great. I decided to use it as a nord vpn gateway. Recently I was trying to figure out what to do with an old Pi3b I had floating around.
